Pre Production Planning - Sound Design

Sound Design

Each of the pranks we do will require altering the volume, for example most pranks will produce a reaction such as a scream. We may need to record these sounds separately as they may be too loud to have with the film. This will require recording it several times and playing around with the volume.

This will be apparent for our airhorn prank. The airhorn will create a very loud sound, so we have to take into consideration the safety of our viewers when sound editing this.

Our ambient sound is also important. We want to make sure there is little outside noise such as lorries and loud drilling. One of our locations has many building works nearby so we may have to film during the evening to eradicate this. Even noise within the house will need to be closely monitored as we want little distractions whilst filming.

As our film is a comedy we will have some lighthearted music playing throughout our film. This will be at a quiet volume, possibly changing depending on the situation. We will be using lapel mics to record the dialogue much more easily, instead of having it within the footage itself. This makes it easier to manipulate the volume of the dialogue to suit our audience.

I have also started to access some royalty free music websites. I have found Incompetech incredibly useful in trying to find some lighthearted, humourous music which we will have playing in the background of our film. I have many tracks such as 'Hidden Agenda', 'Carefree' and 'Hyperfun'.

  1. You must ensure that you use a lapel mic - upload Sophie's film on the technicians blog. Sound effects are going to be critical for emphasis and impact here.
