Pre Production Planning - Props

Props for our film

The props we will buy are on the basis of our pranks. The image below are the results of a prank survey we did. 'Jumping Out on Someone' is the most picked option. This will require little usage of props.

The 'Scary Mask in Bed' will be filmed at night. For this, we will need a scary mask, which will be of a clown's face. The 'Swap sugar and salt around' prank will be fairly straightforward, using these products, which are easily accessible. The 'airhorn behind the door' will require a bit more thought and planning. We will need to buy an airhorn, probably from Amazon. We will then need to discuss how we will attach the airhorn behind the door, using duck tape, which we will need to buy from Homebase.

'Mixing Soy sauce and lemonade to make coke' is another prank we are planning on using. This will require, soy sauce and lemonade, again which are easily accessible. 'Being a chair' is a prank we are thinking of doing but are not sure whether this would be effective and too obvious. From our results, we have decided not to do the whoopee cushion prank as this collected zero responses.

However, we will not be sticking solidly to our responses from the survey. We may choose to use pranks which we have made up. We are thinking of swapping PVA glue for conditioner to be used in the shower. Also, we have decided to use party poppers as another possible idea for a prank. For this we will need to buy party poppers from a local supermarket as well as elastic bands to hold them together.

  1. Don't forget, you don't actually have to create the props - it can be coke and you simply see your character with ingredients, or the air horn could be done with sound?
Don't do the pranks simply on the basis of audience feedback - you must also do what is easy and practical and allows for good camera and editing craft.
